USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. DD850
at Battleship Cove, Fall River, Massachusetts.
To determine range between ships, a Stadimeter was used.
Attention All Hands,
Restoring a US Naval destroyer of the late 1960's vintage is no easy
task. The Gearing class had a mixture of WW2 and modern (60's)
equipment throughout the ship. Add on to this the fact that the Navy
excessively stripped Kennedy and vandals wrecked havoc throughout her
decks while she lay in wait to become a museum, one can see the
dedication of the volunteers to bring DD850 to her present condition.
However, in order to completely restore this historic ship back to her
late 1960's configuration, vintage photographs and equipment are
needed. If you have access to or know where to find any of these below
items, please contact us.
Vintage Photographs
Currently, we are looking for detailed photographs of Gearing and
Sumner class destroyers. FRAM destroyer pictures would be of the most
value. Our restoration team is looking for paint schemes, compartment
layout, signs, machinery, etc which just might happen to be in a photo
you took of a shipmate. If you believe that your photo would be of
value to the Kennedy's restoration, you can send it to us
electronically or by regular US Mail (all original photos will be
returned).
