| Welcome to Goat Island, our "naval station!
JPK tied up to the Goat Island Marina.
| This is a plywood afterdeckouse built by the movie crew on the Aft flight deck. Inside are latrines and generators.
Another angle of the deckhouse.
| Here Kennedy is pierside sporting her new look.
Tony, keep holding that gun. I'll be right back...honest.
| DD853? Isn't that the Charles Roan? Actually, this is JPK undergoing "make-up" to appear as the USS John Pierce DD753.
Up goes the 7.
| USS John Pierce DD753 (AKA DD850).
Looking aft at "DD753".
| Here
JPK DD850 is outfitted as John Pierce complete with DesRon 8 insignia.
Its interesting to note that JPK was flag of DesRon 8 in the 1950's. |
JPK returns as DD850 to play herself in the movie.
| JPK
got fuel here at the marina. mainly diesel fuel for her Original
electrical generator. JPK used her own generator (circa 1945) for over
300 hours to supply light, power, etc for the ship. |
(Left-Right) Ray
Raposo- USS Charles P Cecil DD835, Charlie Boothroyd -USS Stribling
DD867, Clarence "Smitty" Smith -USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Tony Horman -USS
Newman K Perry DD883. These men are shown loitering on the pier whereas
the Shore Patrol had to come down and put them back on the ship. |
| Please
note: The USS John Pierce DD753 was not a Gearing class destroyer but a
Sumner class. John Pierce was also never Fram'd like the JPK DD850.
Though DD850 was painted with 753, She looks nothing like the real USS
John Pierce DD753. Here is the original John Pierce in 1961. |
