Volunteer Crew – DD-850

Subj:   May 2006 – Spring Field Day

Despite adverse weather conditions at times, the Volunteer Crew of the KENNEDY was still able to maintain a high degree of job completion. The unscheduled priority of the weekend was to make repairs to the decks on both Port and Starboard side of the -01 level – just forward of the ASROC Launcher. We believe we have secured what may have been a major source of water leaking into the ship.

However, even with a dedicated group working on that, there was still much done through out the ship. From the Engineering spaces to the Bridge, to the main deck to DASH, all about.

I fear though, that I will not capture everything that was done, but sincerely hope that I capture a majority of the work.

I will provide listing of those attending under separate cover – but the total number in attendance was sixty-one. A pretty solid crew I would offer to you.

As always – with so much accomplished – it is not my intention to overlook the great work completed by our Volunteers. For those tasks I have over looked – my apologies. Ed, Rich and I will continue to work on a better manner to collect and record the wide variety of work done by a great crew.

Included in this weekend, were seven first timers and several that have not been aboard for some time but have returned and contribute as always.

In addition to the work accomplished, the new friendships created and the comradeship of the crew – we also collected $400 which will be used to purchase and ship items to our shipmates and soldiers serving in Iraq . This is the second Field Day in a row we have done this and we will continue to do this until all of our troops are safely home.

So there be any questions – feel free to contact me.
